It’s the end of an era. After a night in a local hotel, we tearily closed the door on Little Selwyn Street. We packed up the car (that’s Boswell to those in the know) and headed under the harbour (tunnel) towards the impressive 9-kilometre NorthConnex tunnel and beyond. It was an almost 5-hour drive to our first port of call, the spotlessly clean Port Macquarie on the beautiful Mid Pacific Coast, some 400 kilometres north of Sydney along the Pacific Highway.
It’s a breezy spot with towering Norfolk Island Pines and oddly, a curved walkway lined with personally painted stones that stretches out of town towards the main beach via a forest of caravans and mobile homes, which pretty much tells you all you need to know about Port Macquarie. It’s Grey Nomad Heaven! And I guess we’re part of that tribe as we head northwards towards the Queensland border and beyond!
Adieu Dingly Dell, hello Adventures to come 👏
